The Miami Heat missed a golden opportunity to take control of the series and put all the pressure on the Boston Celtics.
The Heat could never overcome a slow start in a 104-84 loss at Kaseya Center. They now trail 2-1 in the series entering a pivotal Game 5 Monday in Miami.
Here’s what the players had to say after the loss:
Tyler Herro on Boston’s defense: “They did a couple different adjustments. When Jrue wasn’t guarding me, he was randomly coming over, making me pick up the ball and making the ball get out of my hands.”
Bam Adebayo on the offensive struggles: “We got turnovers because we were careless with the basketball. I don’t think it had anything to do with their pressure. If you watched the game, we had lackadaisical turnovers, unforced turnovers for no reason,” Adebayo said. “I feel like that was the difference.”
Caleb Martin on playing too passive: “There were some times I passed up [shots]. I felt like I was trying to get the ball moving a little bit more, being less aggressive letting it go. That’s on me. I can’t be as passive. I’ve got to let the ball go.”
Erik Spoelstra on the early-game struggles: “Once they went up double digits, their pressure started to pick up. They were the more physical team. They bodied us, they bullied us. Once they started bullying us, bodying us and getting us out of any kind of triggers or action, it was easy to flatten us out at that point. Nobody was open. We were left at the end of possessions just going one on one.”
