It came as a surprise when Butler was ruled out of the 2023-24 postseason due to a serious MCL sprain.
The injury, which happened during a play-in tournament, was a blow to the team as the Miami Heat bowed out in the first round, losing five games to the Boston Celtics.
As is the case with most NBA stars, trade rumors abound. Butler himself has been a continuous subject of such conjectures, especially given that he is eligible to opt-out of his contract after next season.
However, it seems that the six-time All-Star has his heart set on remaining with the Heat. The Heat”s relationship with Butler seemed to be in a good place until Monday.
The turbulence began when Heat’s President, Pat Riley addressed some criticisms that Butler had made. Riley”s comments became the talk of the sport, sparking widespread discussions among experts and fans.
In a surprising twist, Butler opined that the Heat could have defeated both the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks had he been on the court.
These comments didn”t sit well with Riley, leading to the exclamation, “Is that Jimmy trolling, or is that Jimmy serious?”, If you”re not on the court playing against Boston or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut and your criticism of those teams.”
Despite the drama, whether off-court or on, Butler has dominated in the regular season.
His performance showcased an average of 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5. assists, shooting nearly 50% from the field.
He also boasted a commendable 41.4% shooting rate from three-point range.
