Manchester United receive interest in Mason Greenwood | The Independent

Manchester United have privately expressed their determination to offload Mason Greenwood this summer despite his recent resurgence in Spain, according to sources from Football Insider.

The club has informed Greenwood’s representatives that he is free to seek a new team, and they are seeking a transfer fee exceeding £40 million following his successful loan spell at La Liga outfit Getafe this season.

Several top clubs in Europe, including Juventus, have shown keen interest in the 22-year-old English winger, whose contract is set to expire in June 2025.

Manchester United’s leadership aims to utilize the proceeds from Greenwood’s sale for the planned squad overhaul at Old Trafford this upcoming summer.

Speculation surrounding Greenwood’s future intensified following his arrest in January 2022 on allegations of attempted rape and assault, which were later dropped.

After more than 18 months without competitive play, Greenwood was loaned to Getafe last summer, a move that has proven mutually beneficial for both the player and Manchester United. His market value has risen significantly, thanks to his impressive tally of 10 goals and six assists in 31 appearances this season.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United is on the brink of triggering a one-year contract extension for Greenwood, extending his tenure until June 2026. However, this move is primarily seen as a measure to safeguard the club’s investment rather than an indication of his future at Old Trafford.

Any proceeds from Greenwood’s potential sale are likely to be earmarked for the club’s transfer budget, particularly as Football Insider disclosed last week that Erik ten Hag is unlikely to take charge next season, hinting at a potential managerial change at Manchester United.
