Manchester United icon Roy Keane has criticized Andre Onana following his former club’s squandering of a three-goal lead against Coventry City.

The Red Devils entered Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley as overwhelming favorites against their lower-league opponents. With Erik ten Hag’s side racing into a commanding 3-0 lead after 58 minutes, it appeared they had secured their place in the final for the second consecutive season.

Goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes seemed to solidify United’s dominance, but Coventry narrowed the gap with Ellis Simms’ strike. Callum O’Hare further reduced United’s lead in the 79th minute before Haji Wright’s 95th-minute penalty leveled the score, forcing extra time. Keane, in his analysis for ITV, expressed disbelief and frustration at United’s performance, particularly singling out Onana for what he perceived as a lack of focus and leadership.

Keane emphasized the detrimental impact of conceding goals at critical junctures, noting that Coventry gained confidence and momentum after narrowing the deficit.

Reflecting on United’s overall performance, Keane characterized it as “shocking,” while acknowledging Coventry’s commendable effort. Additionally, Keane was frustrated with Amad Diallo’s missed opportunity during extra time, criticizing the failure to capitalize on Fernandes’ scoring chance as a straightforward decision.
