From Willian to Luis Diaz, Spurs have missed out on some serious talent over the years.
Speaking to ESPN, Harry Redknapp has been discussing his biggest transfer regret from his career, and he’s made an interesting claim about one incredible player.
Indeed, according to Redknapp, Tottenham could’ve signed Eden Hazard as a youngster, but, unfortunately, Daniel Levy didn’t want to pay the money to sign the Belgian at the time.
Tottenham could’ve signed Eden Hazard
Redknapp spoke about his biggest transfer regret.
“Best player you missed out on signing, and how would your career have changed if he signed?” Redknapp was asked.
“Probably Eden Hazard. I should’ve got him. I met him, wanted to sign him but Tottenham wouldn’t pay the money at the time. He was a lot cheaper and he was very young at the time when I tried to get him. Yeah. At Tottenham we had a chance, we were right there, second in the league at the time and he could’ve pushed us on to being close to winning the league that year,” Redknapp said.
Imagine Hazard and Bale
This is incredibly frustrating to hear, even as a neutral.
Tottenham were such an entertaining team around this time, and if Hazard had come in to play alongside Gareth Bale in Redknapp’s team, we can only imagine how entertaining that would’ve been.
Hazard’s skill and finesse combined with Bale’s explosiveness and power, this would’ve been a truly remarkable partnership.
Of course, Hazard and Bale eventually did become teammates at Real Madrid after Hazard’s £88m move to the Bernabeu, but, unfortunately, both players were past their best by this point and we didn’t get to see this partnership flourish in the way it perhaps could have at Tottenham.
