Jurgen Klopp has sent a warning to his Liverpool players about Tottenham Hotspur after last nightâs Merseyside Derby defeat.
Tottenham face a difficult run of fixtures over the next 10 days as Ange Postecoglou bids to deliver a top-four finish.
Spurs have a north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with trips to Stamford Bridge and Anfield the following week.
Liverpool suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening, which represents a huge blow to their Premier League title hopes.
Postecoglouâs side will be aiming to repeat the trick against their neighbours Arsenal this weekend.
But with Liverpool needing results to go their way to have any chance of landing the title, Jurgen Klopp is more concerned about securing Champions League football.
Klopp sends warning to Liverpool about Tottenham
Speaking to BBC Sport following a crushing Merseyside Derby defeat, Klopp suggested that Tottenham could yet close the gap on Liverpool.
âI donât know about Evertonâs achievement, I thought they would be safe after that but Sean Dyche knows them better,â the Reds boss said.
âWe need them to lose games and historically they donât do that. Arsenal didnât look very weak last night.
âWe have to play better, that is it. We need points. We are not safe in the Champions League. Tottenham have played a lot of games less than us.â
Liverpool and Tottenhamâs fixtures compared
Kloppâs comments come across as slightly bizarre when you look at the current positions of both sides in the league.
Spurs are 14 points behind Liverpool, albeit with two games in hand over the Reds.
Yet, taking a look at our fixtures in comparison to Liverpoolâs, it would take something extraordinary for Kloppâs side to finish below Tottenham.
