The summer transfer window: Tottenham have now opened talks over £30m centre-back who Mauricio Pochettino tried to sign in January

Tottenham have now opened talks over £30m centre-back who Mauricio Pochettino tried to sign in January - The Spurs News

Tottenham Hotspur have now opened talks over a player who Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign for Chelsea in January.

The summer transfer window is quickly approaching and Ange Postecoglou will need to bolster his squad for an expected season in Europe.

Tottenham have had the luxury of not having to deal with a congested fixture list through European commitments this term.

However, they have still been handed some questionable fixture changes due to circumstances out of their control.

But competing in Europe is a different challenge altogether and will require Daniel Levy to sanction some deals to improve the quality of Tottenham’s squad.

The Spurs News has already been informed that a new centre-back is expected to be on the radar for Tottenham this summer.

And it now seems the north London side are looking to add a specific player with talks having already been opened.

Tottenham eyeing another centre-back to boost squad depth

Over recent weeks, Tottenham have been linked with a number of potential targets at centre-back.

And the names have varied between potential free agents this summer and some who would cost significantly more.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly are some of the free options who could be looked at by Spurs.

Meanwhile, they have also been linked with a potential move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham have now opened talks with Torino over the potential signing of centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno.

It is claimed Torino are still looking for the €35m (£30m) which they were asking for in the January transfer window.

There is still interest coming from within Serie A with Napoli and Milan both credited with interest in the repeort.

However, it was also reported by The Sun Chelsea had identified the Italian ahead of the January transfer window.

Could Tottenham spend their money better elsewhere this summer?

Ahead of the window, Levy will have some interesting calls to make when it comes to how Spurs are going to spend their money.

Over the season, Spurs have already brought in Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin to really add some quality to the backline.

The latter of which is struggling to break the starting partnership of Van de Ven and Cristian Romero after signing in January.

With youngster Ashley Phillips also signed in the summer and the likes of Alfie Dorrington in the academy, could Spurs find a better use of £30m than spending it on another centre-back?

If Romero and Van de Ven fall through injury next season than it will massively hurt Spurs and they will then need solid replacements, but as it is, perhaps there’s bigger needs in other positions.
